TESCAN TIMA Mineralogy

TESCAN TIMA provides high-speed, detailed measurements of sample batches dedicated to the mineral processing and mining industry.

Using elemental analysis to provide quantitative data for mineral identification, TIMA does what no other analytical tool does in a processing plant: measures and classifies particles by size, composition and texture. This allows operators to characterize and monitor mineral processing efficiency and provide rapid access to reproducible and actionable data.

And to ensure that TIMA operators can work and work efficiently, the TIMA operating system features integrated workflows for specific applications, along with a database of virtually all mineral species (approximately 5,000 entries) to accomplish the task of interpreting the presence of much simpler minerals.

Technical specifications

Benefits:

– Understand complex mineral relationships, both at the size-by-size and particle-by-particle level, and optimize processing plant performance using the integrated metallurgical distribution analysis system

– Collect detailed, high-speed measurements on more sample types, with improved mineral chemistry resolution, increased sensitivity for low-abundance elements, and good sampling statistics using TIMA’s 4 EDS detectors and proprietary spectral summing algorithm.

– Maintain continuous operation, fast response time with a minimum number of laboratory operators using options for multi-user offline remote analysis with automation software to support unattended operation.

– Analyze base metals, precious metals and other commodities using integrated quantification and comprehensive mineral identification, mineral composition and grain/particle texture classification with user-defined scripts.

– Process samples in large batches and maintain high-efficiency data collection using continuous, unattended operation

– Free up instrument time for interactive microanalysis or automated measurement and take advantage of TIMA’s offline capability for reporting and data analysis.

Applications

– Recovery: discover the proportion of recoverable losses, proportions of hazardous elements (e.g. arsenic and antimony) and diluents in concentrates.

– Flotation: differentiate the recovery of multiple minerals containing the same element p. copper in chalcopyrite, chalcosine (chalcocite) and covellite.

– Comminution: predicts target grind size in future feed minerals to optimize mineral release for flotation and leaching.

– Leaching: Quantify the degree of carbonaceous minerals to predict the degree of prepreg theft.

– Casting: Plan concentrates with similar casting properties.

– Geometallurgy: Connect geology and metallurgy for optimal mine planning and mineral processing.

– Plant Studies: Add detailed mineralogical and release values to mass flow and chemical analysis data.

– Plant Monitoring: Analyze daily, weekly and monthly plant samples with multiple size fractions from multiple flow rates.

– Metallurgical modeling: complete your models with personalized particle-by-particle data (morphological, mineralogical and chemical composition, degree of release, etc.
